About the instructor:

Tess Israelson, is a local sculptor/artist and has been sculpting and teaching clay building techniques for over 25 years. Clay Building Workshops 

In our introductory one day (one session) clay workshops, students will learn how to create sculptural or functional projects using traditional hand building techniques. 

Students will build and complete one or more pieces (depending on theme) within the 1.5 hr class period. Once completed, students have the option for the studio to glaze the piece one color or you may return to hand paint/glaze during open studio hours for no additional cost. (Expect 2-3 week completion time. Projects take 2 weeks to dry and be bisque fired before students can return to glaze.)

​​​Themes 
Holiday Trees- hand build a variety of slab formed holiday trees. They can be used as lanterns or stand alone. Multiple textures and techniques will be used. 

Mini Village- create your own miniature village with hand building slab techniques. Students will create 2-5 pieces depending on size and detail. 

Butter Dishes- create your own butter dish for yourself or to be given as a gift this holiday season! You will create one slab built butter dish with options for texture, size and style. 

Face Planter- in this class, you will use a pinch pot technique to create a whimsical face themed planter. Learn some basic figurative sculpting techniques and create your own unique piece!

Now Offering!!  Open Studio Workshop

​We now happy to offer open studio hand building workshop!

This is an open studio time where you can come in and create your own hand built clay project without an instructor, during open business hours.

Open studio includes a two hour time slot, 2lbs of clay, shared studio tools, glaze and 2 firings (bisque and glaze). Create your piece in one session, leave it to dry and be fired and return to glaze your project 1-2 weeks later (drying/firing times vary).

Open studio is for intermediate to advanced level hand builders. Availability to work  independently and previous class experience/technical clay hand building skills are required. No instructor will be present, no instructions will be given.

This is for hand building clay projects only. We have no pottery wheels in our studio. We are a low fire cone 05/04 studio and use mostly stroke & coat glazes. 

Cost: $60 per person (14yrs+ or continuing students confirmed w studio)
